IO reader · For journalists

The story in three sentences

Every AI reading product on the market promises to read for you; IO reader is built to refuse. It pairs the public-domain canon with AI personas that challenge the reader — arguing with passages, building interpretations, demanding better translations — inside an interface designed for sustained attention. It is the first product from KHHM, a California lab working on the thesis that as information gets cheaper, the ability to think deeply about it becomes the scarce asset.

Fact sheet

Product
IO reader — iOS reading app (iPhone and iPad)
Tagline
Read deeper. Think sharper.
Maker
KHHM, a California software lab. IO reader is its first product.
The idea
An AI that reads with you, not for you — 12 reading personas that argue with passages, ask Socratic questions, and adapt to the reader, and none of which will summarize the book.
The library
70,000+ Project Gutenberg classics and 500+ hand-edited Standard Ebooks editions, plus the reader's own EPUBs and saved web articles.
The interface
Reading modes engineered for immersion — a paragraph reel and a sentence-at-a-time card mode — with print-grade typography and no engagement mechanics.
Business model
The full library, every reading mode, and a monthly allowance of persona responses are included. IO+ (subscription) adds unlimited persona responses, AI-ranked discovery, and cross-device sync.
Availability
Live now on the App Store, iOS 18.2 or later.
