Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862) spent two years living alone in a small cabin by Walden Pond, on land owned by his friend Ralph Waldo Emerson, testing how little a person actually needs. Walden is his account of that experiment and its arguments for simplicity, free and unabridged in IO reader.
